Copper Clad Steel (CCS) is a material that has a steel core surface which is uniformly coated with copper. CCS comes in a few different forms such as copper-clad steel bars, tapes and wires. The wires also come in both round and stranded shapes.
CCS can be divided into two production processes, continuous casting and electroplating. Each process results in a different product with different characteristics. Continuous casting is a longer process that involves melting steel and copper together and then cooling them together to make a solid product. Electroplating is a quicker process where a steel core is first coated with copper.
CCS is often used in grounding applications and in electrical infrastructure projects due to its high conductivity and corrosion resistance. It is also used in various other metal fabrication projects.
